NORMAN, Okla., Oklahoma's Kyle Terry was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performance in duals against Hofstra and Michigan State, the conference office announced Tuesday, Feb. 27.
The redshirt-freshman from Midwest City, Okla., defeated two top-eight ranked wrestlers in a span of seven days. He defeated No. 8 Charles Griffin of Hofstra in a 7-4 decision as the Sooners claimed a 21-13 victory over the No. 6/8 Pride on Saturday, Feb. 17.
He backed it up with an upset of No. 4 Andy Simmons of Michigan State, 4-2, in Oklahoma's 24-15 defeat over the No. 19/22 Spartans on Friday, Feb. 23. Terry finished the regular season with an overall record of 15-9.
Oklahoma hits the road this Saturday as the Big 12 Championships will be held in Columbia, Mo. OU will then return home for a week before it travels to the NCAA Championships, March 15-17, at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
