Softball Adds Two More Fall Wins

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma offense couldn't be stopped against Birmingham-Southern Sunday afternoon as the Sooners pounded 14 hits to beat the Panthers, 17-0, in a five-inning run-rule contest.  Traci Dickenson and Susan Ogden highlighted the offense as each pounded a grand slam in the game.   

The No. 12 Sooners improved to 9-0  on the year while Birmingham-Southern fell to 2-5.  Oklahoma owns a perfect 4-0 mark in the OU/Nike Classic and will play its final game of the tournament in its second game of the doubleheader on Saturday.  OU and Northwestern State will play in the tournament finale at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Morgan Hudsonpillar earned her first win of the year after pitching the first three innings and allowing no earned runs while surrendering only three hits and fanning three batters.  D. J. Mathis closed out game and gave up no hits in her two innings of work.

In addition to Dickenson and Ogden leading the offense, freshman Amber Flores added two RBI and two hits while Stacia Aleman also added two RBI on two hits.

The Sooners took off in the top of the first as Norrelle Dickson led off the game with a single to center field, stole second and was moved over to third on a sacrifice hit by Savannah Long. Flores followed that with an RBI triple to left center field that scored Dickson and the Sooners continued to pour it on.  Following a Samantha Ricketts' walk, Flores scored on a squeeze play off a Jamie Fox fielder's choice. Aleman continued the Sooner rally with a single to center field.

Traci Dickenson stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and hammered a grand slam over the left field wall as the Sooners took the commanding 7-0 lead.  The nine-hole hitter has pounded two home runs this season.

Oklahoma added insurance runs in the second as Fox pounded her second home run of the season with a three-run shot to left field as the Sooners added a 10-0 advantage.

OU kept it up in the top of the third as Flores pounded an RBI single and Aleman followed with an RBI single.  However, Ogden highlighted the inning with a grand slam, her second home run of her career and first grand slam of her career. 

The Sooners used four straight pinch hitters to open up the fourth.  Iver McDonald and Jade Prather led off the inning with two straight singles.  Mariee Mena pounded a pinch hit RBI single to center field  and Oklahoma extended the lead to 17-0.
