Paris Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas -- Another week, another honor for the Sooner women's basketball team.

Courtney Paris was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday morning, by a media voting panel for games played from Nov. 26 to Dec. 2.

It was the 17th time in her career that Paris earned either player of the week or rookie of the week honors from the Big 12, extending her conference record.

Paris averaged 20.5 points and 18.5 rebounds as she led Oklahoma past North Texas, 79-47, and Arkansas State, 93-36, in OU's first home games of the season. Paris played just 47 minutes in the two games, but scored 41 points and grabbed 37 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free throw line.

Against North Texas, Paris counted 19 points and 22 rebounds.  She matched her career single-game high with 10 offensive boards, equaling the number UNT counted off the offensive glass.

The 6-4 center also garnered another record -- this time it was for No. 1 on OU's career blocks list.  Paris counted five blocked shots against UNT to fly past LaNae Jones (1993-96) for No. 1 on the all-time chart.  On the week, Paris added seven blocks to set the record at 248.  She and Jones are the only two Sooners in history to block at least 100 shots.

Against Arkansas State, Paris shot 10-for-12 from the field and picked up 15 boards.  Paris was spectacular defensively, counting nine defensive rebounds to ASU's total 11 offensive boards.  Arkansas State scored just two points in the paint as it was held to its third lowest scoring output in program history.

Paris totaled 10 points and 16 rebounds in the first half against the Lady Indians for her 25th career single-half double-double.

Paris' 47 minutes played was her fewest in a two-game stretch since the 13th and 14th games of her freshman season when she combined for 39 points and 28 rebounds in road games against New Mexico and Iowa State. In all her court time, Paris was called on just once for a personal foul.

Paris' double-double streak has its second birthday Wednesday, Dec. 5.  It was against UCLA on this date in 2005 that Paris recorded her sixth career double-double, a 24-point, 22-rebound effort against the Bruins, to start the current 67-game streak.

Texas Tech's Stanecia Graham was this week's Rookie of the Week, ending OU's Danielle Robinson's two-week streak of earning that award.

No. 9 Oklahoma (4-2) faces Illinois (6-2) Wednesday night in Champaign, Ill.  Tip off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
