NORMAN, Okla., --The Oklahoma wrestling squad heads to Brockport, N.Y., to compete in the annual Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic this weekend, Saturday, Nov. 10.

OU is vying for its ninth consecutive team title at the event.

Three current Sooners won their respective individual weight class titles last season. Joshua Weitzel, Joel Flaggert and Brad Farmer claimed first place in the 174, 197 and heavyweight divisions, respectively.

"We are looking forward to competing against quality opponents," head coach Jack Spates said. "Our guys are anticipating a different style of wrestling and are eager to get back on the mats."

The Sooners are coming off an impressive outing last Sunday, routing three opponents in Oklahoma City to kick off the season. Oklahoma won the triple-dual against Missouri Valley, Oklahoma City and Neosho Community College by a combined team score of 141-3.

"We are excited about this weekend because it gives our young team three or four matches to gain more experience," Spates continued.

After this weekend, Oklahoma will return to Norman and prepare for the first home dual of the season, Thursday, Nov. 15 versus North Carolina State at 7 p.m at the Howard McCasland Fieldhouse.
