NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooner Sports Notes provide fans with a quick overview of all teams in action for Oklahoma. View a recap of last week, notes and a look ahead for the Crimson and Cream in this weekly feature.
 
  Men's Basketball

• Last Week: Jeff Capel's Sooners won both of their exhibition games, downing Rockhurst by a 93-58 score and Fayetteville State by a 91-50 margin. Both opponents were NCAA Division II programs. Freshman forward Blake Griffin averaged 18.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in 22.5 minutes on the week while shooting .810 from the field (17-for-21). Ten of his 17 field goals were dunks. Sophomore Tony Crocker averaged 12.5 points with the help of .615 shooting and freshman Cade Davis averaged 12.0 points thanks to a team-high 19-point effort against Fayetteville State in which he nailed five 3-pointers. Three more Sooners averaged 9.0 points a game each - Keith Clark, Omar Leary and Longar Longar.

• This Week: OU begins its regular season by hosting a 2K Sports College Hoops Classic four-team regional on Thursday and Friday (Nov. 8-9) at Lloyd Noble Center. Thursday's games will feature Denver vs. East Central (Okla.) at 4:30 p.m. CST and OU vs. San Francisco at 7 p.m. Thursday's losers will play Friday at 4:30 p.m. while Thursday's winners will meet Friday at 7 p.m. The winner of the Norman regional will advance to the event's championship rounds Nov. 15-16 at New York's Madison Square Garden (other regional hosts are Connecticut, Kentucky and Memphis).

• Notes: The Sooners shot extremely well on the week, going .566 from the field, .469 from 3-point range (23-for-49) and .767 from the free throw line … OU shot .623 from the field against Rockhurst (the best it shot in a game last year was .585) … The team's starting frontcourt of Blake Griffin and Longar Longar went a combined 23-for-30 from the floor in the exhibition victories … Cade Davis came off the bench against Fayetteville State to go 5-for-8 from 3-point range and finish with 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in only 19 minutes of work … Blake Griffin was 9-for-10 from the field versus Fayetteville State and posted a double-double (18 points and 11 rebounds).

  Women's Basketball

• Last Week: The No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners routed Henderson State, 110-40, in their first of two exhbition contests to be played at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla. Courtney Paris counted a double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds in 21 minutes of play. Freshman Danielle Robinson scored 18 and tallied four turnovers and four steals with just one turnover. Jenna Plumley (point guard), Nyeshia Stevenson (shooting guard), Amanda Thompson (small forward), Ashley Paris (power forward) and Courtney Paris (center) drew starts.

• This Week: Oklahoma takes on NAIA Division I Oklahoma Christian in its final exhibition contest Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Lloyd Noble Center. Tip off is at 7 p.m. Central.
 
• Promotions: The second in a series of five posters featuring the OU women's basketball team will be debuted Tuesday night. It will be available to the first 3,000 fans who enter the Lloyd Noble Center when doors open at 5:30 p.m.
 
  Volleyball

• Last Week: The No. 18 Oklahoma volleyball dropped two matches last week as it fell to No. 3 Texas and Kansas. The Sooners traveled to Austin last Wednesday and fell to the Longhorns, 3-0, as the Horns swept the series against the Sooners this season. The Sooners remained on the road on Saturday where they faced the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence. OU dropped a heartbreaker to the Jayhawks, 3-2, as it led 2-1 until KU clinched the match by winning the final two frames. The Sooners and Jayhawks split this season with OU beating KU 3-1 earlier this year in Norman.

• This Week: The Sooners look to get back on the winning track Wednesday as they host the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 7 p.m. in Norman. The Sooners will then enjoy a bye weekend before hosting Baylor at home on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

• Notes: The Sooners are currently tied with Kansas State, who the Sooners swept this season, for third place in the Big 12 standings behind Texas and Nebraska, who share the top spot … The Sooners have five matches remaining in the regular season … Freshman setter Samantha Arriaran saw her first start of the season against Kansas as she filled in for the injured Julie Chester. Arriaran recorded 62 assists in her first start in a Sooner uniform.

  Soccer

• Last Week: The University of Oklahoma soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision in Thursday's season finale at No. 25 Oklahoma State in front of 1,612 fans at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.

• Notes: The Sooners were eliminated from the Big 12 Championship on Oct. 28 with the loss to then-No. 8 Texas and concluded the 2007 season in ninth place in the Big 12 … OU will return all but four starters and seven letterwinners for the 2008 season

  Men's Tennis

• Last Week: Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu defeated Bogden Borta and Justin Chow of Columbia, 8-3, Thursday in the first round of doubles play at the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships. The Sooners were defeated Friday by Justin Kronauge and Drew Eberly of Ohio State, 8-6, in the second round. The loss eliminated OU from doubles competition. Daescu was defeated in the first round of singles competition by Somdev Devvarman of Virginia, 6-3, 6-1. Daescu, playing in the singles consolation bracket, was defeated by Robert Farah, 6-4, 6-0, Friday afternoon.
 
  Women's Tennis

• Last Week: The women's tennis competed at the San Diego State Invitational while freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu competed at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Columbus, Ohio.

• Notes: Oklahoma completed its fall slate with the completion of play in San Diego on Sunday, Nov. 4. Junior Brittany Baldy claimed the flight five singles title, while the Sooner duo of Christi Baxley and Tara Eckel won the flight two bracket of doubles … In Columbus, Constantinescu advanced to the second round of the National Indoor Championships before falling to the No. 1 seed in straight sets.

  Wrestling

• Last Week: Oklahoma kicked off the season last weekend in a triple-dual against Missouri Valley, Oklahoma City and Neosho Community College. The Sooners dominated competition, winning all three duals by a combined team total of 141-3. The Sooners totaled nine pins on the afternoon in route to starting the season 3-0.
 
• This Week: The Sooners head to Brockport, N.Y. for the annual Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Classic on Saturday, Nov. 10.
