OU Selects Jr. Reporter of the Year

NORMAN, Okla. -- The OU Athletics Department, in cooperation with Sooner Sports Properties and the Norman Transcript, are happy to announce the winner of the Norman Transcript Jr. Reporter of the Year contest for the 2007 football season.
Amrith Ramkumar, a 12-year old from Norman was selected as the winner for his recap of Oklahoma's game against Tulsa on Sept. 21.
Amrith and his family win four tickets to Saturday's Bedlam game, a behind-the-scenes tour of Memorial Stadium and an autographed football from Coach Stoops. Scroll down to read Amrith's story, which appeared in the Sept. 24 edition of the Norman Transcript.
The Norman Transcript Jr. Reporter contest will continue through the basketball season as well. All kids Kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to submit game stories on OU men's and women's basketball games throughout the 2007-08 season.
Winners will be selected on a bi-weekly basis to have their stories published in the Norman Transcript. Each bi-weekly winner will also receive a reporter prize package and becomes eligible for the Norman Transcript Jr. Basketball Reporter of the Year.

The Sooners have been great against any type of Hurricane this year. The Sooners showed some weaknesses against the Golden Hurricane, but still won by 41 points. The Sooners seemed to be a bit nervous playing their first road game of the year. On their first possession, OU quarterback Sam Bradford threw an interception. Tulsa quarterback Paul Smith picked OU's defense apart on the ensuing possession, and the Golden Hurricane scored a touchdown. It was pretty much all OU from there.
The Sooner offensive line handled the Tulsa defensive line the entire game, and the Sooners, and Golden Hurricane pretty much traded off scoring in the first half. The Tulsa offense in the offensive shootout was tremendous, showing that the Sooners have some work to do in the secondary. The Golden Hurricane play a 3-3-5 defense, with 3 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers, and 5 defensive backs. This defense prevents big pass plays when played effectively, but also provides huge running lanes. The Sooners did have some big pass plays, but had mind-boggling success running the football.
The Sooners had 268 passing yards, and 285 rushing yards, proving once again that they have a very balanced offense. The Golden Hurricane, on the other hand had 354 yards passing, but a pitiful 44 yards on the ground. The Sooners did not panic after a dismal opening, and showed that they can face some adversity. This experience will prove to be good for the Sooners, who faced the 4th ranked offense in the nation.
The Sooners have a great defense, but like most Sooner defenses in the past, they are sometimes over-aggressive, and are susceptible to play action passes, and misdirection. Demarco Murray has proved that he is a very versatile player. In this game he ran well, and took a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. Garrett Hartley missed yet another extra point for the third straight game. Here is an eye-popping stat: the Sooners are averaging more than 60 points per game! Once again, Curtis Lofton, Ryan Reynolds, and Austin English shined for the Sooner defense, sacking Tulsa quarterbacks 6 times while the OU offensive line yielded no sacks at all.
After another landslide victory, the Sooners travel to Colorado to take on the 2-2 Buffaloes. The Golden Hurricane, meanwhile have a great future with their awesome offense, and play UAB next.
