NORMAN, Okla. -- Three members of the University of Oklahoma cross country team were named to the 2007 Division I Midwest All-Region Cross Country team announced today by The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Senior Jessica Eldridge, sophomore Jon Grey and freshman Kevin Schwab were all named to the team after recording top-25 finishes in Saturday's NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Ill.
Eldridge, who finished sixth in Saturday's race, qualified individually for the NCAA National Championship as one of the top-four finishers not on an advancing team after Iowa was selected as an at-large team. Eldridge finished the 6,000-meter race in a time of 20 minutes and 10 seconds.
Grey was Oklahoma's top finisher on the men's side, coming in 17th (30:34) on the 10,000-meter course. Schwab was right behind Grey in 21st (30:44), helping the Oklahoma men to a fifth-place finish.
The Big 12 Conference led all Division I conferences with 29 representatives on the nine regional men's teams and was third on the women's side with 24 runners.
All-Region honors are given to an athlete who finishes in the top 25 at their respective regional meet and whose team is a member of the USTFCCCA.
