OU Advances at ITA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Federico Chavarria and Andrei Daescu defeated Bogden Borta and Justin Chow of Columbia, 8-3, Thursday in the first round of doubles play at the 2007 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University. All matches will be played at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

The Sooner duo will face Taylor Fogelman and Chris Kearny of North Carolina in the quarterfinals Friday.

"I am very proud of the way Andrei and Federico played Thursday," head coach Paul Lockwood said. "It is nice to see these two players hard work paying off with victories in a prestigious event."

Daescu was defeated in the first round of singles competition by Somdev Devvarman of Virginia, 6-3, 6-1.

Daescu will resume play Friday in singles. All players are guaranteed two matches.

This weekend's action will conclude the fall schedule for the men's tennis team.
