NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooner Sports Notes provide fans with a quick overview of all teams in action for Oklahoma. View a recap of last week, notes and a look ahead for the Crimson and Cream in this weekly feature.
 
  Men's Basketball

• This Week: Jeff Capel's Sooners host exhibition games on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and Friday, Nov. 2. OU takes on Rockhurst (an NCAA Division II team from Kansas City, Mo.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Fayetteville State (an NCAA Division II team from North Carolina) on Friday at 7 p.m. OU students will be admitted to both games free of charge with a valid school I.D.

• Notes: The Sooners are picked to finish in fifth place in the Big 12 (tied with Missouri) by the league's head coaches.

• Promotions: Halloween activities and trick-or-treating will be held on Lloyd Noble Center's upper concourse on Wednesday night. Costume contests will be held for children and for OU students. First prize for the children's contest is an OU bike, while first prize for OU students will be $100 in cash. 

  Women's Basketball

• Last Week: Head coach Sherri Coale and the Sooners talked about the upcoming season before participating in an intrasquad scrimmage in front of 2,200 fans at the Lloyd Noble Center Thursday, Oct. 25. OU's Red team defeated White in three of the four eight-minute quarters and overall with a 79-76 lead.

• This Week: OU hosts Henderson State Thursday, Nov. 1, in the first of two exhibition games the Sooners will play at the Lloyd Noble Center. Tipoff is 7 p.m. CT.
 
  Volleyball

• Last Week: The No. 21 Oklahoma volleyball team added two more wins last week as OU knocked off Colorado, 3-1, in Boulder last Wednesday. The Sooners followed that with a rematch of Texas A&M at the McCasland Field House last Saturday. OU knocked off Texas A&M, 3-1, for a sweep of the Aggies this season.

• This Week: The Sooners will hit the road for a pair of matches this week. Oklahoma will face No. 5 Texas in Austin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Sooners will follow that with a road trip to Lawrence, Kan., for a 7 p.m. contest against the Kansas Jayhawks.

• Notes: Oklahoma remains in third place in the Big 12 standings behind No. 1 Nebraska and No. 5 Texas, who are tied for the conference lead ... Oklahoma tied a school record on Saturday night against Texas A&M with 71 assists in a four-game match ... Sarah Weiland had her best offensive outing of the season last week as she averaged 4.88 kills on a .385 hitting percentage.

  Soccer

• Last Week: The Sooners led 1-0 for 81 minutes on Friday against Colorado at home, but fell 2-1 in overtime. On Sunday, the Sooners were unable to pull off an upset at home over No. 8 Texas, falling 4-0 in the home finale. The loss eliminated the Sooners from the Big 12 Championship which begins Nov. 7 in San Antonio.

• This Week: The Sooners will conclude the season at No. 25 Oklahoma State on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. The last 11 meetings in the Ford Bedlam Series have been decided by one goal or less.

• Notes: Friday's overtime loss marked the 11th game this season that OU played in a contest decided by one goal or less. OU is 3-5-3 in those contests and 0-2-3 in overtime games … The last time OU did not qualify for the Big 12 Championship was 2004. 

  Cross Country

• Last Week: The University of Oklahoma women's cross country team finished sixth and the men ninth in the 2007 Big 12 Cross Country Championship Friday at the Rawls Golf Course on the campus of Texas Tech University.

• This Week: The Sooners are off this week as they prepare for the NCAA Midwest Regional, Nov. 10, in Peoria, Ill.

• Notes: Senior Jessica Eldridge finished the 6,000-meter course seventh overall (20:54) to claim All-Big 12 honors for the fourth consecutive year ... Freshman Kevin Schwab posted the men's highest finish in the 8,000-meter race by coming in 30th with a time of 25:43.

  Men's Tennis

• Last Week: Andrei Daescu and Federico Chavarria competed in the 2007 ITA Central Regional Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Daescu defeated Dalibar Pavic of Drake, 6-0, 6-4, claiming the ITA Central Regional Championship in singles play. The doubles team of Federico Chavarria and Daescu claimed the doubles title as the two defeated No. 1 seed and preseason No. 12 Colin Mascall and Blake Strode of Arkansas, 8-6. With his victory Saturday in singles play, Daescu automatically qualified for the ITA National Indoor Championships. Chavarria and Daescu qualified as a doubles team for the Indoor Championships with their win Sunday.

• This Week: Up next for Chavarria and Daescu are the 2007 ITA National Indoor Championships held in Columbus, Ohio, Nov. 1-4. The championships will be held at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

• Notes: On his way to the title, Daescu won five matches and defeated No. 1-seed and preseason's No. 15-ranked player Ivan Puchkarev of Oklahoma State.

  Women's Tennis

• Last Week: The women competed in Fayetteville, Ark. in the qualifying round for the ITA National Indoor tournament.

• This Week: Freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the individual National Indoor Championships. The rest of the team will travel to San Diego for the San Diego State Invitational.

• Notes: The qualifying tournament was set up to play team style duals, with three teams in the draw. Oklahoma was scheduled to play Wichita State at 10 a.m. Saturday; however, Wichita State dropped, advancing the Sooners to the finals where they faced the University of Arkansas. The Razorbacks defeated Oklahoma 4-0.

  Wrestling

• This Week: The OU wrestling team will begin the 2007-08 campaign by holding its annual Red/White ranking match this Thursday, Nov. 1 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Howard McCasland Fieldhouse. The squad will officially begin competition Sunday, Nov. 4 when it travels to Oklahoma City to compete in a triple dual against Oklahoma City, Neosha Community College and Missouri Valley. OU returns five NCAA Championship qualifiers from last year's squad and has been ranked in the top 20 in several preseason polls.
