Sooner Sports Notes: October 22

SOCCER (6-7-3 Overall, 2-4-1 Big 12)
Last Week: The Sooners played 110 minutes on Friday only to finish the contest in a scoreless tie to visiting Texas Tech. Instead of moving into a tie for sixth place in the Big 12 standings, the tie placed OU in a tie for eighth place. On Sunday, OU stepped out of Big 12 play and fell, 1-0, to visiting Butler at John Crain Field.
This Week: The Sooners will host Colorado Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oklahoma will entertain Texas at 1 p.m. as it celebrates "Senior Day."
Notes: Two of the Sooners' final three opponents in the regular season are ranked in the top 25. Texas entered last weekend at No. 6 and Oklahoma State was ranked No. 23.

VOLLEYBALL (16-5 Overall, 8-3 Big 12)
Last Week: The No. 23 Oklahoma volleyball team upset No. 14 Kansas State, 3-1, Friday night at the McCasland Field House. It marked OU's third straight match in less than a week against a top-15 squad as the Sooners fell to No. 6 Texas, 3-0, last Wednesday at the Field House.
This Week: Oklahoma will end its three-match home stand as it heads to Boulder, Colo., on Wednesday night to take on the Colorado Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. (CST). The Sooners will return home for a rematch against Texas A&M this Saturday at 7 p.m. at the McCasland Field House.
Notes: OU's victory over Kansas State marked the Sooners second win over the Wildcats this season as they knocked them off in Manhattan when they were ranked No. 16 in the country ... OU's win over KSU gave Oklahoma sole possession of third place in the Big 12 standings behind top-ranked Nebraska and No. 6 Texas ... Mariana Blum and Bridget Laplante set career highs in digs against Kansas State with 29 and 26, respectively ... Oklahoma is 20-4 since 2006 at the Field House, with three of those losses coming to top-10 teams - No.1 Nebraska (twice) and No. 6 Texas.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
This Week: Jeff Capel's Sooners will host their local media day on Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. in the Kerr-McGee Courtside Club (above the basketball offices at Lloyd Noble Center). Media should park on the east side of the building and enter via the upper east doors. Media will be allowed to attend practice following the press conference and one-on-one interviews.
Notes: OU plays exhibition home games on Wednesday, Oct. 31 against Rockhurst University and Friday, Nov. 2 against Fayetteville State (both at 7 p.m.). The regular season begins Nov. 8 and 9 with the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic in Norman. The Sooners host San Francisco on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. and will play either Denver or East Central (Okla.) on Nov. 9 at 4:30 or 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week: OU women's basketball head coach Sherri Coale and Sooners Ashley Paris, Courtney Paris and Jenna Plumley participated in the Big 12 Conference Media Day in Kansas City, Mo.
This Week: OU hosts its own media day in Norman Thursday, Oct. 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Coale and all 12 Sooners will be present for interviews in the Kerr McGee Courtside Club followed by an open scrimmage on the Lloyd Noble Center's main floor.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
Last Week: The women's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional Championships with three Sooners entered in the main draw. Freshman Ana-Maria Constantinescu advanced to the finals before falling. Senior Chelsea Orr advanced to the quarterfinals. And the duo of Orr and Constantinescu advanced through the doubles bracket before falling the semi-finals.
Notes: Constantinescu has now advanced to the finals of both collegiate tournaments in which she has played.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Last Week: The University of Oklahoma women's golf team picked up its second tournament victory of the fall with a score of 902 (+38) at the 16-team Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. It was the team's final event of the fall season.
Notes: Senior Kelly Jacques tied for fourth place, shooting a final round 73 (+1) to secure her first top-five finish of the season ... Jacques finished no lower than 12th in the team's four fall tournaments. Her final round of the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate was her 100th career round as a Sooner ... The Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate completes OU's 2007 fall schedule. The Sooners finished first, second, fourth and first in their four events.

MEN'S GOLF
Last Week: The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished sixth as host of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in Edmond, Okla., on Tuesday after shooting a final round of 307 (+23). 2007 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Jesse Schutte recorded a third-round 73 (+2), tying fellow Sooner Tyler Rody's three-round score of 227 (+14) for a 15th-place finish. Schutte recorded rounds of 80, 74 and 73 while Rody carded scores of 79, 69 and 79.
This Week: The Oklahoma men's golf team looks to wrap up its fall slate with a win Oct. 22-23 at the 15-team Santa Clara Invitational in San Jose, Calif. Play begins today at the 6,868-yard, par-72 Silver Creek Valley Country Club.
Notes: Rody's second-round 69 marked a career best while the 15th-place finish also marked a career best.

CROSS COUNTRY
This Week: The Oklahoma cross country team heads to Lubbock, Texas for the 2007 Big 12 Championship this Friday, Oct. 26. The men's 8,000-meter race begins at 10 a.m. on the Texas Tech Rawls Golf Course followed by the women's 6,000-meter run at 11 a.m.
