NORMAN, Okla. -- The 2008 OU baseball team took time away from the fall practice schedule on Saturday to celebrate "Team Building-Program Pride Day" at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Coaches and players took part in general maintanence duties on the Sooners' home park, including painting, weed eating, trash pickup and various other jobs around the stadium.
"A day like today helps show that we care about our facility," said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. "It gives the student-athletes a sense of pride for their program and the facility the work in everyday.
"We established 'Team Building-Program Pride Day' this year to allow the players to have a sense of ownership to the program that they fight so hard to defend on the field during the season."
The Sooners worked for a little over two hours in the morning and will come back for a 6 p.m. intrasquad scrimmage later in the day. The scrimmage is free and open to the public.
"Our philosphy is that a team comes closer together when they work towards a common cause. And that common cause today was caring about the program that they represent.
"Hopefully after today, when they come in and see a piece of trash on the ground, they are more likely to pick that up because they have a greater appreciation for OU baseball and their facility."
