Sooner Sports Notes: October 15

SOCCER (6-6-2 overall, 2-4-0 Big 12)
Last Week: The Sooners split over the weekend on the
road in Big 12 play. OU lost on Friday to No. 12 Missouri,
3-0, at the Audrey J. Walton Complex. On Sunday, the
Sooners bounced back and rallied past Kansas, 2-1,
after trailing 1-0 at halftime.
This Week: A four-game home stand awaits the Sooners as they get it started on Friday, Oct. 19 at Texas Tech. The Sooners and Red Raiders will begin at 7 p.m. at John Crain Field. OU will also host Butler (Oct. 21), Colorado (Oct. 26) and No. 4 Texas (Oct. 28) in the longest home stand of the season.
Notes: The Sooners' comeback victory on Sunday at Kansas was the third rally of the season. OU also came back from a 1-0 deficit against Baylor last weekend at home to win 3-1. On Sept. 7, the Sooners rallied past William and Mary on the road, 2-1. The wins over Kansas and William and Mary are the Sooners' only two road wins of the season. OU is 2-5 away from home this season and 4-1-1 in Norman ... The Sooners have five games remaining in the regular season and the next four will be played at John Crain Field. OU will conclude the regular season on the road at Oklahoma State on Nov. 1 ... Allyson Kucera's two-goal performance on Sunday was the second of her career and the third by a Sooner this season. Kucera also scored two goals against Arkansas on Aug. 28, 2005. Audri Habibi (Alabama A&M) and Whitney Palmer (Oral Roberts) also scored two goals in games earlier this season.

VOLLEYBALL (15-4, 7-2 Big 12)
Last Week: The No. 25 OU volleyball team entered the
polls last Monday and responded with a sweep over Texas
Tech Wednesday night in Lubbock. The Sooners defeated
the Red Raiders by scores of 30-28, 30-26 and 30-18.
Oklahoma returned home for a meeting with the top-ranked
and undefeated Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday afternoon.
The Sooners hung close in the first game, but Oklahoma
couldn't pull out a win as No. 1 Nebraska swept the
Sooners by scores of 30-25, 30-21, and 30-25.
This Week: Oklahoma's schedule doesn't get any easier as it continues its home stand against two ranked Big 12 foes. The Sooners will host No. 7 Texas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the McCasland Field House. OU will only have a day's rest before facing No. 16 Kansas State on Friday at 6 p.m., also at the McCasland Field House.
Notes: The Sooners currently sit at third in the Big 12 standings behind undefeated Nebraska and No. 7 Texas (12-3, 8-1 Big 12) ... OU's loss on Saturday snapped the Sooners' 15-match home win streak that dated back to 2006 ... Prior to Saturday, OU's last loss in the Field House was also to No. 1 Nebraska on Sept. 16, 2006 ... The Sooners have not lost back-to-back matches all season ... The Nebraska match attendance was 1,181 - the largest home crowd for the Sooners in the last two seasons.
Promotions: The first 500 fans at the Texas match will receive free pom poms. OU's match against Kansas State will mark Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The first 500 fans will receive free pink t-shirts.

CROSS COUNTRY
Last Week: The University of Oklahoma cross country
team closed out its regular season by finishing second
in the men's division and 12th in the women's division
in the Penn State National Invite at the Penn State
Blue and White Golf Courses in State College, Pa.
This Week: The Sooners are off this week as they prepare for the 2007 Big 12 Championships, Oct. 26, in Lubbock, Texas.
Notes: Sophomore Jon Grey led the OU men's cross country team for the second consecutive week by finishing fourth on the 5.2-mile course with a time of 26 minutes and 26 seconds ... All-American Jessica Eldridge was the leading female Sooner with a time of 21:30 on the 6,000 meter to course to come in 11th.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week: The Oklahoma Sooners conducted their first
practice Friday night at the Lloyd Noble Center and
continued Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.
This Week: Oklahoma continues practice in preparation for the upcoming season. OU's first exhibition game is Nov. 1 versus Henderson State. Practices this week are closed to the media.
Notes: Big 12 Media Conferences are Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Kansas City, Mo. ... OU women's basketball local media day is Thursday, Oct. 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Kerr-McGee Courtside Club.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Last Week: Jeff Capel's OU men's basketball team held
its first "official" practice of the 2007-08
season on Friday evening. The Sooners return seven
letterwinners from last season, including seniors David
Godbold and Longar Longar, and welcome six newcomers.
Guards Tony Crocker and Austin Johnson, who missed
the early September exhibition trip to Canada, have
been cleared for practice and were in action over the
weekend.
This Week: Capel, Godbold and Longar will travel to Kansas City, Mo., for Big 12 Media Day on Wednesday.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Last Week: Oklahoma placed fourth at the 16-team Jeannine
McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational in Lubbock, Texas,
hosted by Texas Tech.
This Week: The Sooners are in Las Cruces, N.M., as they wrap up their fall season Oct. 15-17 at the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Invitational.
Notes: Senior Kelly Jacques finished in 12th place at the McHaney Inviational ... Freshman Ellen Mueller was 13th ... Jacques' final round this week will be her 100th career round as a Sooner.

MEN'S GOLF
This Week: Hosting the second annual Oklahoma Intercollegiate,
the OU men's golf squad finished the opening round
in sixth place on Sunday at Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond,
Okla. High winds gusting upwards of 30 mph resulted
in an average score of 79.32 for the 11-team field
at the 7,412-yard, par-71 layout. Leading the way for
the Sooners was Eric Durbin who fired a 5-over-par
76, finishing they day in a tie for eighth. Durbin
entered this week's event with top-20 finishes in both
`07 fall events.
Notes: OU tees off at 10:40 a.m CT on Monday in the second round of the event ... The Oklahoma Intercollegiate is free to the public ... Final-round action begins at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
