NORMAN, Okla. -- Former Sooner Anda Perianu fell in the second round of the qualifying draw Friday at the Australian Open.

After defeating the No. 7 seed in the first round, Perianu, a native of Romania, fell in a tough three-set match.  She was defeated by Germany's Vanessa Henke, 5-7, 6-3, 4-6.

It marked Perianu's second Grand Slam to play in after competing in the French Open last year.

The former Sooner will return to Norman in between her pro circuit tournaments to serve as a volunteer coach.

“I am very excited to be around the girls again,” said Perianu.  “It is going to be a great experience to continue to develop my playing skills while also having the opportunity to coach.”
