September 24, 2006 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma men's golf team concluded first- and second-round action Sunday at the Fighting Illini Invitational with a two-round total of 609, placing it in 12th place going into Monday's final round.
The young Sooners squad struggled early, battling tough course conditions, with an opening-round score of 309 (+29.) OU bounced back in the afternoon round with a team total of 300 (+20), a nine-shot improvement over the morning round.
The par-70 Olympia Fields North Course, home of the 2003 U.S. Open, showed its teeth Sunday as no team broke par in either round. Stanford leads the field of 12 teams at 575 (+15).
