NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma volleyball team notched its second straight Big 12 road win with a sweep of Iowa State (30-21, 31-29, 32-20) Saturday night in Ames, Iowa. OU's offense highlighted the night as the team pounded a .316 clip and had four players tally double-digit kills.
With the win, OU moved to 2-1 in Big 12 and 10-3 overall while Iowa State fell to 9-4 and 1-2 in conference play. Iowa State was the second opponent this season that was receiving votes in the top-25 that the Sooners swept. The other was Texas A&M, whom the Sooners handed a 3-0 loss to last week.

“We really believed in ourselves tonight and had everyone clicking on all cylinders,” head coach Santiago Restrepo said. “Our serving was much improved and I thought our defense was exceptional. Now we need to carry this momentum into our next match.”
Highlighting the offensive side for the Sooners was freshman Bridget Laplante who notched a season-high with 15 kills on an impressive .343 clip.
Senior Eliane Santos followed with 12 kills while Joanna Schmitt and Laura Tomes added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
Junior Sarah Weiland led OU to one of its best hitting percentages in Big 12 play this year as she recorded a .600 clip while adding seven kills. Three other Sooners (Tomes, Laplante and Santos) also notched a .300 hitting percentage or higher.
Guiding the Sooners to their strong offensive production was setter Rachel Jackson who added 49 assists for Oklahoma.
The defense also had a strong outing against the Cyclones as it held ISU to a .198 clip. Libero Anna Monsen led the defensive charge with her match-high 19 digs while Laplante collected nine and Jackson and Schmitt recorded eight a piece.
At the net the Sooners tallied seven blocks behind Joanna Schmitt's two solos and Eliane Santos' three block assists. Jackson and Tomes each added two block assists as well.
Oklahoma returns home this Wednesday, Sept. 27 after a 10-day road stretch. The Sooners will play the first installment of the Red River Rivalry as they host the No. 5 Texas Longhorns at the McCasland Field House.
