NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams open their seasons at the Hurricane Festival Saturday, Sept. 2, at Mohawk Park in Tulsa.
Hosted by the University of Tulsa, the meet has been the traditional start for the Sooners, having been scheduled as the opener for three of the past four seasons.
The men's race begins at 8 a.m. with the women following at approximately 8:35.
In addition to the Sooners and Golden Hurricane, teams from Oklahoma State, Missouri Southern and Central Oklahoma are scheduled to participate.

The Sooners celebrate the return of juniors Jason Coleman, Jessica Eldridge and Catherine Odell after the trio was redshirted last season during head coach Martin Smith's first year. Each will be a favorite to take top individual honors in their respective races this weekend.
The 2006 edition of the Sooners have a completely different look than those of 2005.
Along with the return of Coleman, the men's squad fields seven true freshmen. Junior Jason Penland, who suffered a season-ending injury after the first race last season, is the only returnee from 2005.
The women's team returns its top two athletes Eldridge and Odell and gains talented freshman Ashley Storm. Aja Clark and Kristi Cook complete one of the Big 12's most veteran lineups.
A complete recap and full results will be available on SoonerSports.com shortly following the conclusion of the event.
Mohawk Park is located at 5631 East 36th Street North in Tulsa, four miles north of I-44 and Tulsa International Airport.
