METAIRIE, La. University of Oklahoma student-athletes Cale Drumright and Chip Heuser were selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's All-Academic Track & Field Team released by its national office Thursday.
Drumright and Heuser proved that academic and athletic success go hand-in-hand as both made outstanding accomplishments on and off the track during the 2006 season.
Drumright, a sociology/criminology junior, was the Big 12 javelin champion.
Heuser, a sociology sophomore, earned two All-America honors one during the indoor season and one outdoor for his results in the men's pole vault at the NCAA Championships and was the conference runner-up during both seasons.
Oklahoma was one of seven Big 12 universities to place a member on the men's academic team. Nebraska led the league with seven selections.
The USTFCCCA honors individuals and teams for their academic and athletic accomplishments during the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in his or her event.
Three Sooner women Kristi Cook, Ashley Harris and Catherine Odell were selected to the USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Track & Field Team Wednesday.
