Baseball Summer League Update No. 1

NORMAN, Okla. -- As part of continuing coverage of Oklahoma baseball throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country, including former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
Update No. 1
In the Cape Cod League, junior catcher Jackson Williams is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with 2 RBIs and a .526 on-base percentage.
On June 23 versus the Wareham Grahams, Williams led his Hyannis Mets to a 4-3 victory on a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including a game-tying RBI single in the sixth inning. The Mets are 4-6 as of June 27 and sit in fourth place of the West Division.

Also in the Cape Cod League, junior shortstop Aaron Reza is helping the Chatham A's to a 5-3-1 record, good for first place in the East Division. Reza recently went 3-for-5 against two Sooners, junior Kody Kaiser and Joe Dunigan, of the Orleans Cardinals. Despite Reza's performance, the A's fell 2-1 to the Cardinals, who are a close second in the division at 6-4. Dunigan and Kaiser each finished the game 0-for-4.
Down south in the Texas Collegiate League, several Sooners are competing, including sophomore utility player Brandon Moss. Moss is tied for the team lead on the Euless Stars with a .333 batting average (11-for-33). He has also connected for three doubles and five RBI in 10 games for the Stars, who are in third place in the Tris Speaker Division.
Also playing in the Texas Collegiate League are seniors Matt Lovelady (Weatherford Wranglers) and Jimmy Rollins (Coppell Copperheads), juniors Brad Burns (Weatherford Wranglers) and Jarod Freeman (Graham Roughnecks) and sophomore Nich Conaway (Weatherford Wranglers).
In the Alaska League, junior utility player Ryan Mottern continues to see time at the plate and on the mound. Mottern has made three appearances for the Kenai Peninsula Oilers and is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA. In addition, Mottern has struck out seven and walked three over 3 1/3 innings pitched.
Senior outfielder Aaron Ivey (Kanuai Menehunes - Hawaii Collegiate League) is the remaining current Sooner playing in a league this summer.
In the Majors, seven members of the 2006 team have all made their debuts in Class-A baseball.
Ryan Rohlinger, who plays for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (San Francisco Giants), had a successful debut on June 20. The former third baseman went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored as Salem-Keizer defeated the Spokane Indians. Rohlinger is currently hitting .346 with four doubles in seven games played.
Daniel McCutchen also had an impressive debut as he made his first start on June 24 for the Staten Island Yankees (NY Yankees). McCutchen lasted three innings in his lone appearance so far this summer, after surrendering two hits and a walk to go along with his five strikeouts. Also playing on the Yankees' squad are Kevin Smith and Russell Raley. Below is a look at how they did in their profressional debut along with other former Sooners:

In addition to the minor leaguers listed above, Reggie Willits (2002-03) made his Major League Debut this season with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Willits is currently playing in AAA with the Salt Lake Bees.
