Four Sooners Named NWCA All-Academic

NORMAN, Okla. -- Four University of Oklahoma wrestlers were named to the NWCA All-Academic team announced Tuesday

Justin Dyer, a junior from Olathe, Kan., was one of two wrestlers to carry a perfect 4.0 grade point average and one of 15 with a 3.8 or higher.  Dyer is completing graduate school and currently holds an overall cumulative GPA of 4.0.

Also being named to the team were junior Sam Hazewinkel and seniors Jake Hager and Wes Roberts.

Hazewinkel, a junior from Pensacola, Fla., achieved a 3.45 GPA in Communications.  Hazewinkel won the 125-pound Big 12 Championship and followed that up with a third-place finish at the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year. 

Hager, a senior from Perry, Okla., achieved a 3.03 GPA while studying Business Finance.  Hager, a first time All-America at this years NCAA Championships is scheduled to graduate this May.  Roberts, a senior from Oklahoma City, Okla., achieved a 3.63 GPA while in graduate school and qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time this year.  He is set to graduate this May.

As a team, Oklahoma finished eighth out of 30 schools with a team cumulative GPA of 3.077.  The Sooners and the Michigan Wolverines were the only schools to finish in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships and the NWCA All-Academic team standings.
