Garrison Wins Regional ITA Award

NORMAN, Okla.   For the second consecutive year, men's tennis senior Tommy Garrison has received the ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship for the Central Region, the ITA announced Monday.

Garrison, a four-year letterwinner, capped off his senior year by winning the Big 12 No. 2 Doubles title with teammate Federico Chavarria. Earlier in the season, he tied the OU record for most consecutive wins with 19. Garrison has also received numerous awards for his accomplishments on and off the court. He was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team for the third consecutive year and was given the Athletic Director's Leadership Award for OU for his athletic, academic and leadership accomplishments. Garrison was also chosen as the recipient of the Big 12 Conference Medal for OU, which recognizes athletic and academic success.

The ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship is presented to one male and one female player in each of the Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA and California Community College ITA regions who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements. Garrison will compete against the seven other Division I regional winners for the national award, which will be announced on Monday, May 22.
