Kim Named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

April 05, 2006 | Men's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma junior Anthony Kim has been named Golfer of the Month for tournament play through April 15, the Big 12 Conference announced today.  The honor is Kim's first of the season and the second of his career.

The La Quinta, Calif. native won back-to-back tournaments by a total of 15 strokes to start his spring season.

At the Ashworth Invitational, Feb. 27-28, at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., Kim fired three consecutive under-par rounds to take a nine-shot victory over runner-up Zack Miller of Stanford.

In the Sooners' next event, the Hall of Fame Invitational in Humble, Texas, March 17-19, Kim dominated Redstone Golf Club's tournament course, firing a season-best five-under 67 in the first round.  He finished the tournament at eight-under-par to claim an eight-stroke victory over Oklahoma State's Jonathan Moore.

Kim's tournament win streak also included six consecutive rounds of par or better.

His two titles this spring bring his career win total to five, including the crown at last year's Big 12 Championships.

The OU men's golf team has recorded top-five finishes in each of its last three tournaments and climbed into the top-50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings.

The Sooners next tournament is the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational, April 15-16.
