Ragan, Kim Earn Big 12 Honors
April 28, 2006 | Men's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. Three days after helping lead the Oklahoma men's golf team to its first Big 12 title in school history, head coach Jim Ragan and junior Anthony Kim have been honored by the conference.
Ragan was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the first time after guiding the Sooners to the team's first-ever Big 12 team title. OU, the sixth seed going into the event, posted a tournament-best 284 (+4) team score in the final round to beat the University of Texas by four shots.
Ragan was picked as the Easton Golf Pride Regional Coach of the Year in 2004 and the Sun Mountain Sports District Five Coach of the Year in 2001.
Prior to this week's breakout victory at the Big 12 Championships, Ragan's squads had been conference runners-up in 2001, 2004 and 2005.
While at Oklahoma, Ragan's players have earned five All-America awards, four Academic All-America awards, 2004 NCAA Freshman of the Year and 2005 Big 12 Player of the Year. He also coached the first two freshman All-Americans in school history in Carlos Del Moral and Anthony Kim.
Kim was honored as a member of the All-Big 12 team for the third time in his career. He was named Newcomer of the Year in 2004 after finishing second at the Big 12 Championships as a freshman. As a sophomore he earned Player of the Year honors after capturing the conference title by six shots.
The La Quinta, Calif., native was one of four unanimous selections to the 2006 squad.
Friday's announcement increased OU's Big 12 honors to three for the season. Last week sophomore Phillip Bryan was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
The Sooners will return to the links for the 15th annual Perry Maxwell Intercollegiate Invitational at Dornick Hills Country Club in Ardmore, Okla., May 13-14.
