OU & BYU Meet in the Round of 32

Women's Hoops Invited to State Capital

April 19, 2006 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma House of Representatives will honor the Oklahoma women's basketball team for its Big 12 Regular Season and Tournament Championships and other outstanding accomplishments at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25 in the House Chamber.

The invite was extended and coordinated by District 58 Representative Jeff Hickman, who will join his fellow representatives as they officially honor the Sooners before the Oklahoma governing board.

The women's hoops squad went 31-5 and reached the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament during the most recent season.  They will go down in the record books as the best team in program history in terms of rebounds, blocked shots and 3-pointers made.

The team also strung together a 19-0 record against Big 12 foes, in the process becoming the first team in league history to run the table through the regular season and tournament schedules.  The Sooners also strung together a record 19-game winning streak that ended in the Sweet 16.

The Sooners return all five starters and 92 percent of its scoring and rebounding next season.  The returnees are led by sophomore-to-be Courtney Paris, who arguably produced the best rookie season in NCAA history while becoming the first true-freshman to receive consensus All-America honors.

Leah Rush (10.1 ppg), Chelsi Welch (9.1 ppg), Erin Higgins (8.8 ppg) and Britney Brown (7 ppg) round out the returning starters.
