NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's golf team moved up two spots in Sunday's final round of the Aggie Invitational, finishing in a tie for eighth place with Kansas State at 916 (+62).
The Sooners were in 10th after the first two rounds on Saturday, but posted their best team score of the tournament, a 296 (+8), in the final round to gain in the team standings.
Texas Tech used a scorching 12-under-par team score in Sunday morning's round to overtake host Texas A&M, which held a seemingly safe 15-shot lead going into the day. The Red Raiders finished with a tournament total of 868 (+4) to take home the title by one shot over the Aggies.
Tech also had the individual champion as Oscar Floren fired a final-round 66 to take home medalist honors by three strokes over Baylor's Ryan Baca.
For Oklahoma, All-American Anthony Kim bounced back from a second-round 81 with and even-par 72 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 12th.
Senior Brodie Flanders turned in the best round of the day for the Sooners, carding a two-under 70. Flanders, coming off a career-best 13th-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate (April 3-4), tied for 26th overall.
Sophomore Phillip Bryan also shot his best round of the tournament in the final round, recording a three-over 75 to finish in a tie for 44th at 233 (+17).
Senior Shawn LaFontaine tied for 54th at 236 (+20), while fellow senior Justin Fraley was 62nd.
Oklahoma, ranked 39th in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin Performace Ratings, has finished in the top 10 in each of its events this spring.
The Sooners return to the links April 24-25 for the Big 12 Championships at Southern Hills in Tulsa. OU was runner-up at last year's tournament with Kim taking home his first individual Big 12 title.
