Sooners Fall to Arkansas on Senior Day, 5-2

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Arkansas on Wednesday's Senior Day at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman. The loss drops OU to 14-9 overall.

The Sooners once again opened with a strong doubles performance by winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Senior Tommy Garrison and sophomore Federico Chavarria were the first to walk off the court with a win by upsetting Adrians Zguns and Blake Strode, 8-5, who are ranked 44th in the country. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Cale Planck and sophomore Ryan Thomas fell to Colin Mascall and Austin King, which made the face-off at No. 1 the deciding match.

Tied at 8-8, senior Alexei Ivanov and junior Marek Velicka won the tiebreaker, 8-6, to win the match and clinch the doubles point for Oklahoma.

In singles, OU dropped five of the six matches. Garrison, Velicka, Ivanov, freshman Sergey Avdeyev and senior Lee Gregg all lost their matches in straight sets.

Planck, who competed in singles for the first time since early March, played a close match at No. 5. Planck dropped the first set but rebounded with a second-set win. In a third-set super-tiebreaker, Planck posted a 1-0 (6) win to take the match.

Oklahoma will compete in two more duals on the road before heading to the Big 12 Championships. The Sooners will face Tulsa on Wednesday, April 18, and will cap off the regular season against Oklahoma State on Saturday, April 22.
