Kim Honored as Golfweek Player of the Week

March 09, 2006 | Men's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. Following his runaway victory at the Ashworth Invitational, Oklahoma junior Anthony Kim has been named Men's Player of the Week by Golfweek.com.

The La Quinta, Calif. native cruised to a seven-stroke victory with three consecutive under-par rounds at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif., Feb. 27-28, finishing with a three-round total of 204 (-9).  He also guided the Sooners to a tie for fourth place, their highest tournament finish of the season.

The Ashworth title was Kim's first of the year and the fourth of his career.  As a sophomore he was co-champion of the inaugural Texas A&M Invitational and won the Big 12 title by six strokes.  Kim also captured medalist honors at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate as a freshman in 2004.

The two-time All-American and reigning Big 12 Player of the Year was recently named to the watch list for the Ben Hogan Award, college golf's most prestigious individual honor.

Kim and the Sooners return to the links March 17-19 for the Hall of Fame Invitational at Redstone Golf Club in Houston.
