Kim, Sooners Take Hot Streak to Austin

March 31, 2006 | Men's Golf

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's golf team seeks to continue its strong play this spring at the 40th Annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate at Austin Country Club, April 3-4 in Austin, Texas.

The Sooners are coming off their best tournament finish of the year, a tie for third place at the Hall of Fame Invitational.  OU junior Anthony Kim turned in a dominating performance to earn his second consecutive tournament title with an eight-stroke victory over Oklahoma State's Jonathan Moore.

The solid start to the spring has also launched the Sooners into the rankings for the first time this season.  OU is currently ranked No. 46 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ratings and is also receiving votes in the GCAA/Bridgestone Coaches Poll.  Kim's back-to-back wins have also vaulted him from the 100s to third in the individual rankings.

In addition to Kim, the Oklahoma lineup for the Morris Williams will feature seniors Shawn LaFontaine, Brodie Flanders and Justin Fraley and junior Nick Sheedy.

The Sooners finished sixth in last year's Morris Williams event.  Kim and Sheedy both recorded top-10 finishes with Kim tying for fifth and Sheedy tying for eighth.

The Morris Williams is the second stop on OU's “Texas tour” this spring.  Beginning with the Hall of Fame, the Sooners will play three consecutive events in the state before heading back to Oklahoma for the Big 12 Championships at Southern Hills in Tulsa and The Maxwell at Dornick Hills in Ardmore.
