NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma's Kevin Bookout and Nate Carter were two of the 14 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 Men's Basketball First Team on Wednesday.
It marks the second straight academic all-league honor for Bookout, who was also a first-team selection last year. This is the first year Carter was eligible for the honor.
Bookout, a senior forward from Stroud who is majoring in human relations, is averaging 11.2 points and 7.0 rebounds this year while shooting .563 from the field. Carter, a junior forward from San Diego, Calif., who transferred to OU after spending two seasons at UC Riverside, contributes 6.4 points and 3.4 boards a game while shooting .486 from the field and .804 from the free throw line.
Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league men's basketball team consisted of 14 first-team members and seven second-team representatives. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
Earlier in the day, Bookout was named an ESPN The Magazine Third-Team Academic All-American.
The Sooners, 20-6 overall and 11-4 in the Big 12, close out the regular season on Sunday at Texas. The 3 p.m. CST game will be televised by CBS.
