Kim Leads, Sooners Ninth as Rain Stops Play

NORMAN, Okla. Reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Anthony Kim is the early leader at the Ashworth Invitational, while his Oklahoma team stands in ninth place overall, as rain suspended play in the second round at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif.

Kim, a two-time All-American, got off to a hot start in the morning round, birdying five of his first six holes. Kim finished the first round in a tie for second place at 68 (-3) and was even-par on his afternoon round when play was stopped.

Sophomore Phillip Bryan turned in a one-over 72 in the first round. Junior Nick Sheedy carded a 74 (+3) and senior Justin Fraley shot 78 (+7) to complete the Sooners' first-round score of 292 (+8). OU was 10-over-par as a team in the second round at the stoppage of play.

The University of Washington leads the team standings at one-over-par, three ahead of second-place Pepperdine, which held the first round lead at 283(-1).

Tournament officials suspended play in the afternoon after torrential rain caused some minor flooding on the golf course. Second-round play will resume Tuesday morning with the final round scheduled to follow.
