Cowboys Edge Sooners, 21-12

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 9/11 Oklahoma Sooners (10-6-1, 1-4) were defeated by No. 2/2 Oklahoma State (16-2, 5-0) 21-12, on Sunday afternoon inside Howard McCasland Field House in part two of the Bedlam Series, presented by Bank of Oklahoma and your local Ford Dealers.

OU dropped their fourth Big 12 dual of the season, and with the victory Sunday the Cowboys have now beaten the Sooners in 16 straight duals. Oklahoma State defeated Oklahoma 23-12, at Stillwater in December.

“I am proud of our effort and I thought we battled hard tonight, but I'm obviously disappointed,” said OU head coach Jack Spates. “I expected a real battle at 125 pounds and I was very pleased with the way Sam (Hazewinkel) finished the match. Matt (Storniolo) wrestled very tough, Zach Esposito has dominated him every time they have wrestled and Matt gave himself a chance to win. ”

No. 2 Sam Hazewinkel kept his unbeaten streak alive with a 2-0 decision over No. 6 Coleman Scott in their 125 pound match. Hazewinkel, pushed his record to 25-0 with the victory.

No. 2 Teyon Ware scored big for the Sooners in the 141 pound bout. Ware defeated Ethan Kyle by a technical fall, 20-4.

“It hurts a little bit to lose my last Bedlam dual and to never have beaten them,” said Teyon Ware. “It's been amazing wrestling in this rivalry, and I am thankful to have gone undefeated individually in the Bedlam series.”

Also scoring for Oklahoma was no. 15 Justin Dyer. He avenged a defeat earlier in the year against Oklahoma State by defeating Rusty Blackmon by a major decision of 13-4.

Next up for Oklahoma is senior night when the No. 16/18 Michigan State Spartans visit Howard McCasland Field House on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m.
