NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma senior forward Taj Gray was named to the five-man National Association of Basketball Coaches First-Team All-District 12 squad Friday. It marks the second year in a row the 6-9, 238-pounder from Wichita, Kan., has earned the honor.
Gray, who has started all 22 games for the 16-6 Sooners (7-4 Big 12), leads OU in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg) and blocked shots (1.4 bpg). He is shooting .571 from the field to rank third in the Big 12 and has shot .500 or better in 18 of his 22 outings. The Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year has scored 22 points on three occasions this year and netted a career-high 31 (21 in the second half) against West Virginia on Dec. 22. He has grabbed at least 10 rebounds on six occasions, a season-high 14 twice.
Joining Gray on the first-team all-district squad were Iowa State's Curtis Stinson, Colorado's Richard Roby, Iowa's Greg Brunner and Northern Iowa's Ben Jacobson. Named to the second team were Kansas' Brandon Rush, Missouri's Thomas Gardner, Iowa's Adam Haluska, Kansas State's Cartier Martin and Oral Roberts' Caleb Green.
The 10 members of the two teams are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Teams to be announced at the conclusion of the 2005-06 NCAA basketball season.
Oklahoma, ranked No. 19 in both major polls this week, hosts Iowa State (141-10, 4-7) on Saturday at noon CST. The game will be televised by ABC. For tickets, click here.
