Sooners Record Top-10 Finish at UH-Hilo Intercollegiate

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii The University of Oklahoma men's golf team secured a top-10 finish after the final round of the University of Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate Friday.
The Sooners shot a team total 295 on the final day to finish the tournament in a tie for ninth place at 868 (+16).
The three low-scorers for OU were the team's three seniors, Brodie Flanders, Justin Fraley and Shawn LaFontaine, who all finished in the top 40 as individuals. Flanders shot 75 on Friday to finish at 2-over-par for the tournament. Fraley was one shot behind at 216 after a final-round 74, and LaFontaine's 75 landed him at 218 (+5).
Sophomore Phillip Bryan also carded a 75 on Friday to finish at 223 (+10).

No. 2/3 Georgia Tech took home both team and individual honors. The Yellowjackets finished at 21-under, 14 strokes ahead of second-place Oklahoma State. Cameron Tringale held off a charge by Travis Toyama of Hawaii, who fired a final-round 65, to capture medalist honors by one stroke.
The Sooners ninth-place finish is nine spots higher than their last trip to Waikoloa in Feb. 2005, when, despite a career-low round of 66 by Anthony Kim on the final day, OU finished 18th.
Oklahoma returns to the links Feb. 27-28 for the Ashworth Invitational in Los Angeles.
