Sooners to Compete in All-Star Meet

NORMAN, Okla., -- Sam Hazewinkel, Matt Storniolo and Will Rowe will participate in the 41st annual NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps. The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

Hazewinkel finished last season with a record of 31-2 and a Big 12 Championship. At the NCAA Championships the junior earned third place and All-America honors for the third consecutive year. No. 1-ranked Hazewinkel will be wrestling No. 2 Troy Nickerson of Cornell who was the 2006 NCAA runner-up. Hazewinkel defeated Nickerson 2-0 last season at the NWCA National Duals. Nickerson was named Ivy League Wrestler and Rookie of the Year while also being part of the All-Ivy first team last season.

No. 2-ranked Storniolo will be wrestling No. 1-ranked Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota. The pair met in the 149-pound NCAA semifinals last season where Schlatter defeated the State College, Pa., native by a decision of 5-1. Schlatter is coming off a 2005-06 campaign in which he finished 42-1 with a Big 10 championship and the NCAA title at 149-pounds. He also won the Big 10 Freshman of the year honor. Storniolo won the same award in 2004 while wrestling for Penn State.

No. 19-ranked Will Rowe, a sophomore, will be competing in the 157-pound exhibition match against No. 8 Travis Piccard of the Citadel. Rowe finished 2005-06 with a record of 20-8 and earned a trip to the NCAA Championships.

The Sooners will be in Columbia, Mo., for the Missouri Open on Sunday, Nov. 19.

Oklahoma returns home on Saturday, Nov. 25, when it hosts the Oklahoma Open. The Sooners wrestle their next home dual on Wednesday, Nov. 29, when the University of Central Oklahoma travels to the Howard McCasland Field House.
