NORMAN, Okla. -- OU junior Gabby Baker went 1-1 Tuesday at the All-American Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Los Angeles.  Baker, who is nearly recovered from her ACL injury, played two tough matches, with one big win.

Baker opened the tournament with a 6-4, 7-6 win over the University of California's No.3 singles player.  After being down 2-0 in the tie breaker of the second set, Baker came back to win the tie breaker and close the match.

“It was a very good match,” said Oklahoma assistant coach Raluca Gheorghe. “Gabby fought hard. I am very proud of her. This is a very good win.”

The second round of the day was a little more disappointing. Baker fell, 7-6 (5), 5-7, 6-2, in a lengthy three setter, to Clemson.

“I am still so proud of her,” said Coach Gheorghe. “She has not played this much at one in two months due to her ACL and she played so hard and so great. I have not seen her play like that since she was a 100 percent healthy. She accomplished so much at this tournament just in her attitude and the way she fought.”

Baker will head back to Norman to continue practicing and strengthening her knee. She will hit the courts again with the rest of the team at the ITA Regional Championships on October 18, in Tulsa.
