NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team and first-year head coach K.J. Kindler announced the Sooners' 2007 schedule Wednesday.
OU will participate in 14 events, including four home meets at the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman.
”This season's schedule is loaded with top-notch programs,” Kindler said. “Once we begin in January it will be a non-stop ride until late April. One of our goals this season includes spicing up our home competitions with great crowds and increased support from enthusiastic gymnastics fans.”
Oklahoma will host conference foe Missouri and Central Michigan in January, while Texas Women's University, Iowa and Pittsburg come to Norman in March.
“The meets against Iowa and TWU will be held in conjunction with our National Championship men's program and should prove to be awesome spectator events,” Kindler said.
The Oklahoma road schedule could prove to be one of the most challenging in the country and begins with a trip to perennial power Alabama. After hosting Missouri and Central Michigan on Jan. 19, the Sooners hit the road for the entire month of February with five consecutive away meets.
“The OU away schedule is packed with top 12 teams and may be one of the more difficult away schedules in the nation,” Kindler said. “The season opener against powerhouse Alabama will be a true test of our pre-season preparation.”

The Big 12 slate will feature road trips to Nebraska (Feb. 2) and Iowa State (Feb. 16), both Super Six finishers in 2006. In addition, OU will face Pac-10 opponents Arizona State (Feb. 9) and Stanford (March 9) and Big Ten power Iowa (March 17).
The 2007 Big 12 Championships will be held March 31 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo.
“The Big 12 Championship is always an exciting event,” Kindler said. “Each year the conference gets stronger on a national level. I expect that this year's event will prove to be one of the most intense competitions in Big 12 gymnastics history.”
Oklahoma compiled a 17-17 record in 2006, including a first-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional. OU finished third at the Big 12 Championships and 10th at the NCAA Championships.
Three returners Kiara Redmond, Stephanie LoPiccolo and Brittney Koncak-Schumann earned All-America honors last season.
The 2007 season marks the Sooners' first with Kindler at the helm. Kindler spent seven seasons at Iowa State where she led the Cyclones to the Big 12 Championship and the Super Six in 2006. She was also a three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and in 2005 was honored as the 2005 National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGCW) Coach of the Year.
