NORMAN, Okla. -- Senior Beky Preston has seen her role on the Oklahoma team change numerous times during her career, but never once has the Albuquerque native changed her approach.
This season Preston has been asked to back up freshman phenom Courtney Paris. For her efforts, Paris and head coach Sherri Coale have routinely cited her as the team MVP.
In her final collegiate season, Preston is averaging 2.5 points and 1.8 rebound per game. The valuable center recently sat down with SoonerSports.com to answer a few questions.

What is your favorite part of being a Sooner?
“I love my teammates. That has to be the best part. I think it is so unique to have a mix of 11 girls that actually get along.”
What has been your proudest moment since joining the program?
“I don't think I can narrow it down to a single moment. I think coming off of last year, with the year we had and I had personally, and to come back this year a completely turned around team. That's definitely very rewarding.”
If you could add any team to the schedule, who would it be?
“I don't know, I really like our schedule. Our schedule's tough. I get to play my hometown team, so it's pretty great.”
What improvements would you like to see within your team a month from now?
“There are a lot of offensive flaws that could improve. We aren't quite fluid yet in a lot of our movement.
“Defensively, we aren't consistent. I think those are two obtainable goals.”
What makes this year's team so dynamic? What do you consider your weapon?
“Our largest strength is definitely that at each and every spot we have depth. It isn't always a whole lot of skill at each spot.
“For example, at my position, I have a lot of experience and knowledge. I'm not as talented and skilled as Courtney Paris. but that is what she brings to the table. The combination of the two makes for a solid position.
“That's the case across the board, for every position. If someone is off, there is someone there to fill in the holes.”
Are there any individual goals you have set for your senior year?
“Have fun! That is my biggest goal. Often, seniors have a tendency to turn the wheel on themselves because it's their last chance. I think I have been pretty even keeled.”
How did you get started in basketball?
“I tried out for my middle school team in the sixth grade. I didn't play ever. But then my seventh grade year I started AAU.”
Do you have any pre-game superstitions?
“It depends. Sometimes I will start to notice things in the middle of the season that I think I've done all year long, so I will think it's a superstition, but then I'll forget about it again.”
What do you like to do when you're not playing basketball?
“I like to golf, go to the movies and cook.”
What are you looking forward to as a team this year?
“We have a strong team this year. I think that if we can have some positive things happen, we can win it all.”
