NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's cross country team took first place at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Open Saturday at Rebasmen Park in Little Rock, Ark. The women's team placed second.
Oklahoma's Jason Coleman won the 8K open race in 25 minutes, 20.6 seconds. Coleman ran unattached from the team. Coleman won the race by 19 seconds over UALR's Calum Neff, who also ran unattached.
OU senior team captain Blake Culp took third overall (25:59.6) and first individually among Division I scorers. The Sooners scored 24 points to beat UALR (51), Arkansas State (55) and Memphis (112).
Salah Hussein (sixth, 26:11.8), Scott Hollingsworth (ninth, 26:49.3), Jason Penland (11th, 27:00.1) and Billy Grona (14th, 27:17.2) all scored points for the Sooners.
Aoife Cooke from Division II Arkansas Tech won the women's 5K race in 17:49.1 defeating UALR's Petra Kindlund (17:58.7) and OU's Catherine Odell (18:13.6), who ran unattached.
UALR scored 17 points to win the women's division. Oklahoma (47) and Arkansas State (64) were second and third, respectively.
Junior Aja Clark led the Sooners with a sixth-place finish (19:02.7). She was followed by OU scorers Kristi Cook (11th, 19:39.1), Ashley Williams (18th, 20:07.9), Brooke Edsall (21st, 20:31.0) and Clementine McCutchen (27th, 20:58.8).
