Women's Tennis Set to Open Fall Season

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team will open its fall season Sept. 16 at the Hurricane Invitational at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa. Six teams, including Kansas, Missouri State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Wichita State, will be competing in the three-day invitational.
Freshman Brittany Baldy, sophomores Christi Baxley, Rachael Cox and Chelsea Orr and juniors Anne Carter and Monica Purice are slated to compete in the tournament.
The Sooners' schedule for the invitational is as follows:
Friday, Sept. 16
9 a.m. vs. Missouri State
2 p.m. vs. Wichita State
Saturday, Sept. 17
9 a.m. vs. Kansas
2 p.m. vs. Oklahoma State
Sunday, Sept. 18
12 p.m. vs. Tulsa
Head coach Mark Johnson, who is entering his 17th year at Oklahoma, returns seven letterwinners and adds two freshmen and a transfer to the 2005-06 team. The Sooners concluded the 2004-05 season with a 14-12 overall record and went 4-8 in conference play.
