August 29, 2005 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Big 12 Conference announced the 2005-06 FSN and ESPN2 women's basketball telecast schedules on Monday morning.  The Oklahoma Sooners will appear on national television five times, including their marquee match-ups with defending National Champion Baylor and 2005 national runner-up Michigan State.

“We are always excited about the opportunity to play on national television,” said OU head coach Sherri Coale.  “We have a great team and one of the toughest schedules in the country. This gives us an outstanding opportunity to showcase Sooner basketball on a national stage.”

FSN will broadcast three Sooner games, starting with the home tilt against Michigan State on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The tip time has been set at 7 p.m. by the network.  FSN will also televise the opening installment of Bedlam from Stillwater on Saturday, Jan. 14.  The finale on FSN is the home game with defending National and Big 12 Champion Baylor on Sunday, Feb. 12.

The Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Championship quarterfinal games will be televised by FSN for the fifth consecutive year, in addition to the semifinals and championship which have been televised by the network every year since the inception of the conference in 1996-97.

ESPN2 will carry the Big 12/Big 10 Challenge when the Sooners travel to face Ohio State, who was ranked No. 8 in the final 2005 polls.  The contest with the Buckeyes has been set for Monday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m.  OU will close the home portion of the season with Senior Night against Nebraska on ESPN2 on Feb. 26.

OU returns three starters, including leading scorer and All-Big 12 performer Leah Rush, from a team that went 17-13 last season and reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  The Sooners expectations have also been boosted by the addition of twin towers Ashley (6-3) and Courtney (6-4) Paris. The twin sisters comprised the consensus No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.

The Oklahoma athletics department and Sooners Sports Properties are currently finalizing plans to broadcast additional women's basketball games on the Sooners Sports Network.  Once those dates are announced, OU will announce game times for all of its contests.

All dates and times are tentative and subject to change.
