Golfers Advance to Can-Am Match Play

LaFontaine Fifth at Ontario Amateur

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma senior-to-be Shawn LaFontaine concluded Tuesday's first round of the Ontario Men's Amateur Championship in Port Stanley, Ontario, tied for fifth place, three strokes behind the leaders.

LaFontaine (Cobourg, Ontario) carded a 2-under 70 on the 6,800-yard Redtail Golf Course in round one. Lee French (London, Ontario) and Will Mitchell (Whitby, Ontario) shared the lead in the field of 156, each firing a 67.

The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after Wednesday's second round. The final two rounds of 18 will be played on Thursday and Friday.

LaFontaine tees off for the second round at 12 p.m. CT.
