NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's tennis team placed four student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 team as announced by the league office Tuesday. Seniors Jessica Braver and Beth Griffin and sophomore Irina Lykina earned first-team honors while senior Heather Saluri was selected as second-team member.
It marked the third straight year for Braver and Griffin, 2003 ITA Academic All-Americans, to receive the honor while Lykina and Saluri garnered their first selection to the Academic All-Big 12 team.
In addition, Braver earned special recognition as she was the only Big 12 women's tennis player to record a 4.0 grade point average, either cumulative or over the last two semesters. Braver has earned a flawless 4.0 GPA for the last six consecutive semesters.
The league named 33 women to the first team and seven to the second team. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher, either cummulative or the two previous semesters, and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.
