NORMAN, Okla. -- Dionnah Jackson became just the fourth player in Oklahoma women's basketball history to earn Kodak All-American honors. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company announced Saturday the 2005 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. Jackson was named to the honorable mention squad after a very successful collegiate career with the Sooners.
A selection committee representing each of the eight WBCA geographical regions selects 10 of the top women's basketball players in the nation to be honored.
In addition, Kodak and the WBCA announced the recipient of The State Farm Wade Trophy. LSU's Seimone Augustus was named The State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year.
Jackson was also selected by the Associated Press as an honorable mention All-American. She led OU in rebounding (8.5), assists (5.8) and steals (2.2) per game, as well as ranking second in scoring with 14.6 ppg. Jackson earned WBCA/Kodak All-Region 5 acclaim followed by All-Big 12 honors for the third consecutive year. She was also named to the Naismith and Wade Trophy Award list plus the Wooden Award All-America preseason team.
Former Sooners that have earned Kodak All-America recognition include Stacey Dales-Schuman (2002, 2001, first teams), LaNeishea Caufield (2002, honorable mention) and Phylesha Whaley (2000, honorable mention).
This year's All-American team consists of two; two-time Kodak/WBCA All-Americans in Augustus and McCarville. The remaining members of the team are receiving the Kodak/WBCA All-America honor for the first time in their careers. Wiggins becomes the ninth freshman in history to earn this prestigious recognition, which has been given since 1975. Ann Meyers (UCLA-1975), Lynette Woodard (Kansas-1978), Cheryl Miller, (USC-1983) Janet Harris (Georgia-1984), Katie Smith (Ohio State-1993), Chamique Holdsclaw (Tennessee-1996), Tamika Catchings (Tennessee-1998), and LaToya Thomas (Mississippi State-2000) preceded her in earning this feat.
Saturday's announcement marks the 31st year of the longest running sponsorship in women's athletics between the WBCA and Kodak. The WBCA, Kodak, and State Farm congratulate these outstanding players for this prestigious honor.
