Sooners Drop 5-2 Loss To Texas Tech

NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's tennis team suffered a tough 5-2 loss to Texas Tech Saturday, April 16 at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Red Raiders ended the Sooners' four-match winning streak and it marked OU's first conference loss since March 26 against Texas.

OU dropped its overall record to 13-9 and 3-5 in the Big 12 while Texas Tech pushed its record to 8-12 overall and 5-6 in conference play.

The Sooners claimed two of the six singles positions in the match for OU's only points of the day. Freshman Christi Baxley put the Sooners on the scoreboard first after defeating Tech's Erin Hunter, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot. With the win, Baxley improved her overall spring record to 16-3, a Sooner best. Adding the other point for OU today was senior Jessica Braver at the No. 4 position. Braver defeated Tech's Lakann Wigley in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, to earn her 13th win of the season.

OU will be back in action Sunday, April 17 for a 12 p.m. match up against the Missouri Tigers at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
