NORMAN, Okla.   The Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the courts looking to upset a nationally ranked team when it plays Big 12 foe and tenth-ranked Texas Tech on Wednesday, March 30, at the Mcleod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas. The match will begin at 1:30 p.m. OU owns a 13-11 all-time regular season series record against the Red Raiders.

The Sooners enter the match 13-1 while the Red Raiders are 18-1. Both clubs are 0-1 in Big 12 play. Texas Tech boasts the second highest ranking for an OU opponent this season and Texas Tech also has a top 15 singles player in sophomore Bojan Szumanski. OU is currently ranked 59th.

Texas Tech returns to action following a solid win over 39th-ranked Texas Christian University, 4-3. The Red Raiders are 6-1 against ranked opponents, including wins over No. 19 Clemson and No. 13 Washington. OU is 2-1 when facing ranked teams, with wins over Northwestern and Arkansas.

Out in front for Oklahoma is sophomore Marek Velicka. Velicka won the singles championship title in the ITA Region V Tournament last fall. Velicka owns a stellar 11-3 singles record. He teams up with senior Silviu Tanasoiu to own a 12-1 doubles record. Velicka and Tanasoiu recently upset Baylor's 22nd-ranked doubles team of Lars Poerschke and Matija Zgaga. Tanasoiu is also competing well for the Sooners in singles, owning an outstanding 11-1 singles record.

In spring 2004, OU beat Tech in an exhilarating 4-3 match in Norman.
