Tulsa Knocks Off Softball, 4-2

TULSA, Okla. For the second consecutive season the Oklahoma softball team (31-6) fell prey to Tulsa (19-18) at Donna J. Hardesty Sports Complex in Tulsa. On Wednesday night, the Golden Hurricane defeated the seventh-ranked Sooners, 4-2, thanks to a game-winning two run homer by third baseman Lindsay Galloway.

The loss is just the Sooners' second in the last 31 games, although it is their second consecutive after falling to No. 1 Arizona in the KIA Klassic finale on Saturday, March 19.

OU only needed two pitches from starter Maren Genow to claim the lead in the second inning. Senior Heather Scaglione put the first pitch down the left field line for a single. She trotted home on the first offering to Jessica Leslie, who crushed the ball over the left field fence for her fifth home run of the season.

Leslie is off to a tremendous start in her final collegiate season. She has already topped her career single season highs in doubles (16), home runs (5), RBI (40), stolen bases (9) and base on balls (14). The Raytown, Mo., native is just six short of her career mark in hits and four in runs.

Credit Kami Keiter with TU's first two scores. She allowed three singles to load the bases in the first inning and then plunked designated player Sara Dyer to give up the game's initial run.

Then in the second inning with two outs, Keiter fielded a ground from Stacy Walkingstick and errantly overthrew first baseman Christina Enea. The throw ended up in right field and Walkingstick landed on a third base.

The Golden Hurricane got to Keiter again in the third inning. Third baseman Lindsay Galloway gave TU a 4-2 advantage when she cranked her team-leading fifth home run to left field.

Keiter dropped her second consecutive start and fell to 16-3 on the season. For Genow it marked the second consecutive season that she has earned the win against the Sooners on her home field.

Junior Kristin Vesely continued her torrid assault on opposing pitchers with a 4-for-4 outing. She was stranded on base after each at bat. OU left seven runners on base with four of those being credited to No. 3 hitter Christina Enea.

The Sooners begin Big 12 play with a Friday doubleheader against Iowa State. The twin bill begins at 4 p.m. at the OU Softball Complex. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive free OU Easter eggs and trucker hats.
