Golfers Take Eighth at Hall of Fame

HUMBLE, Texas The University of Oklahoma men's golf team finished in a four-way tie for eighth place at the Hall of Fame Invitational Sunday.

The Sooners (881, +17), who started day three in eighth, counted 296 strokesbelow the 296.5 averagein the final round.

Oklahoma State won the tournament at the Redstone Golf Course with a three-round score of 846 (-18), beating UNLV by two strokes. New Mexico was third with a 1-over 865.

Sophomore Anthony Kim led the Sooners with a four-way tie for 15th. The La Qunita, Calif., managed his 10th career top-10 finish (in 17 tournaments) after shooting a 74, his only over-par round.

Kim finished the tournament at even par, 10 strokes behind winner Ryan Moore of UNLV.

Kim was set for a 2-under round, but his second shot on the par-4, 478-yard seventh rolled off the bank in front of the green into the water. His drop landed three feet from the pin, but he missed the putt and had to take 8.

Sophomore Nick Sheedy continued to impress, sharing low round honors amongst the Sooners. The Burlington, Iowa, native followed a career-low 70 in the second round with a 73 today. He finished in 22nd at 3 over par, up nine positions from his start.

Freshmen Phillip Bryan and Jordi Garca concluded play in ties for 41st and 68th, respectively.

Bryan's day was spoiled with a double bogey on Redstone's toughest hole, 16, but rallied, scoring two birdies over his final six holes.

Garca fared much better on the final day, following the worst round of his young career, an 81, with a 73. The Spaniard's 1 over day moved him nine places up the leaderboard.

Junior Justin Fraley completed the Sooners lineup. The Rowlett, Texas, native had his best effort of the weekend, using 76 strokes to complete the final 18 holes. Fraley improved in each round, shooting 78-77-76, finishing in a tie for 77th.

Junior Shawn LaFontaine, playing as an individual, shot 73 in the final round, improving 11 spots from his 40th-place start into a tie for 29th.
