NORMAN, Okla. --- Oklahoma's Dionnah Jackson is one of 10 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard of the Year Award. Jackson, a native of St. Louis, Mo., has been OU's heartbeat this season. She's produced eight double-doubles, one triple double and scored in double digits in 18 of 22 games, while averaging 15.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game as a point guard.
Jackson has led OU in scoring in five of the last six games, averaging 20.0 ppg. She's also accounted for a team-best in rebounds (9.0 rpg), assists (5.5 apg), steals (2.0 spg) and blocks (1.0).
The 5-9 guard took over the Baylor game scoring 26 of her career-high 30 points in the second half, including the final 16 points for the Sooners. Jackson was one short of setting a Big 12 Conference record for most assists in a single game when she distributed 16 at Texas A&M, setting an Reed Arena record for most assists in a single game. Her career-high nine steals against Iowa in November remains a Big 12 individual game high for the season.
Jackson is just one of two players since the league was formed to produce more than 1,000 points, 600 rebounds, 400 assists and 200 steals during a career. She currently has 1,384 points, 762 rebounds, 564 assists and 249 steals. She also ranks among OU's all-time greats in nine categories, including points, rebounds and assists. Jackson is among the Big 12's best in assists and steals.
Connecticut's Diana Taurasi won the award in 2004, while teammate Sue Bird was a three-time winner (2000-2002). This year will mark the first time a non-UConn player will win the award since it was formed five years ago.
Jackson is also a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award.
