Cowboys Down Sooners, 23-12

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners were defeated by No. 1 Oklahoma State 23-12 Friday night inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.

“It was definitely Bedlam tonight in Stillwater,” said head coach Jack Spates. “Our guys came ready to wrestle and wrestled hard throughout the night.”

Redshirt Freshman Will Rowe came up big for the Sooners on the evening, defeating No. 11 Kevin Ward by a decision of 7-5.

The Sooners were able to keep pace with the Cowboys early with each team winning three out of the first six matches, but Oklahoma State won two of the matches by a major decision and followed that up by winning the final three matches, one by a fall.

Also scoring for the Sooners were Sam Hazewinkel (125) defeating Coleman Scott, 6-4, Teyon Ware (141) defeating Daniel Frishkorn, 4-3 and Wes Roberts (174) defeating Brandon Mason, 5-3.

“No one hung their heads tonight and there were a lot of positives, especially Will Rowe upseting No. 11 Kevin Ward,” continued Spates.

The Sooners and Cowboys are set for round two of Bedlam on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Howard McCasland Field House.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, the Sooners return to action when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to compete in the 9th annual Lone Star Duals.
