NORMAN, Okla. -- The prognosticators continue to rain praise on Oklahoma freshman Courtney Paris. The latest accolade came from ESPN.com on Wednesday, when columnist Nancy Lieberman named the 6-4 center to its Preseason All Freshman Team.
Paris is joined on the team by Erika Arriaran (Texas), Marissa Coleman (Maryland), Kia Vaughn (Rutgers), Abby Waner (Duke). The former national No. 1 recruit was also named Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year by the league's coaches last month.
Paris only has one exhibition game under her belt as a collegiate athlete, but her performance certainly lived up to the hype. Against an outmanned Oklahoma Christian squad she poured in 25 points and 18 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action. The dominant post also blocked two shots and did not commit a foul.
The Sooners tip off the regular season this Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Wisconsin Milwaukee in the opening round of the Preseason WNIT. If OU wins, it will host the winner of Louisiana-Lafayette and SMU on Sunday at 2 p.m. Adult tickets are $10 for the reserved level and $8 for general admission. The cost for children K-12 is $5, while OU students with valid identification will be admitted free.
