Freshman Spencer Rives Joins OU Golf Team

NORMAN, Okla. -- Freshman Spencer Rives has joined the lineup for the 2005-2006 Oklahoma men's golf team.

“I'm excited to have Spencer on the team,” head coach Jim Ragan said.  “He comes to us with a lot of natural ability and he's got a great work ethic.” 

Rives, a native of Lafayette, La., helped St. Thomas More High School to three consecutive class 4A state titles, and finished runner-up as an individual in 2004. 

He also qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 2004.

“I'm confident Spencer is going to be a very competitive player and really help our program out immensely,” Ragan said.  “I'm looking forward to him being an integral part of our team in the years to come.”

Rives is the lone newcomer on a Sooners squad laden with experience.  OU returns six players with varsity experience from last year's Big 12 Championship runner-up team.
